UK PR agencies tackle homelessness in the 2024 Providence Row MarComms Cup

Spreckley, Catalyst, Rostrum, Ready10 and Flame PR are taking part in charity five-a-side tournament to raise money for London’s oldest homeless charity

This month sees the inaugural Providence Row MarComms Cup, with five of London’s leading PR and marcomms agencies battling it out on the pitch, to raise £1000s for London’s oldest homeless charity, Providence Row—a frontline charity dedicated to tackling homelessness in London. With a steadfast commitment, they tackle the root causes of homelessness to help people get off, and stay off, the streets.

The latest report by the CHAIN Homeless Database shows that a total of 10,053 people were recorded sleeping rough in London in 2022/23, a 21% increase from the previous year, which is why Providence Row is experiencing an increase in clients in need of its services. Last year, 1,578 people returned to rough sleeping after time off the streets—this is the highest number in 5 years. The annual increase in rough sleeping in Tower Hamlets is 55%, over double the wider London increase.

Michael Blakesley, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Providence Row, commented:

“When Spreckley approached me about organising a football tournament to support Providence Row, I never imagined the remarkable commitment and enthusiasm they would bring. They’ve not only rallied several prominent PR and marcomms agencies to participate and raise funds, but they truly grasp the urgent need to address the root causes of homelessness. Their support helps people not just get off the streets but stay off them. We can’t thank them enough. Join us for an exhilarating match and cheer on these dedicated teams as they play for a cause. May the best team win!”

Richard Merrin, CEO of Spreckley PR, commented:

“I am so proud of the team that worked hard to put together this summer’s Providence Row MarComms Cup. Providence Row is a fantastic organisation and I hope we can raise a significant amount of money to help them in their mission to combat homelessness in the capital. I’m looking forward to seeing some healthy inter-agency competition in Shepherd’s Bush next Friday, and hearing some inter-agency banter in the bar afterwards!”
